HD DVD - a doomed format

Toshiba slashed the retail price of its cheapest player from $299.99 to $149.99 on Monday after Warner Bros. Entertainment said it would stop publishing movies on HD DVD in May, to focus on Blu-ray and regular DVD.

Does this new low price make me want to run out and buy an HD DVD player?

Why… no, no it doesn’t. Why would I want to buy a player when everyone is dropping support for it?

I AM amazed at how much they are able to slash their costs, however. I thought profit margins in electronics were a lot thinner (like 10% or less?). Maybe if they weren’t so greedy in the first place, more people would have bought into their format… a lesson they might have learned from Nintendo and the popularity of their low cost Wii.
